Most email security products rely exclusively on techniques such as spam filters, to discern and block unwanted email. But the trouble with spam filters, as you've likely encountered, is that they make mistakes, too often blocking wanted email. WIShost is different and comes at the problem from a different perspective. By using an innovative address-based perimeter defense in combination with traditional white listing and content-based filtering, WIShost E-Mail Total Control ensures that the content you want actually arrives in your inbox, and everything else doesn't. This blended solution delivers email from legitimate senders, blocks spam, and dramatically reduces false-positives, while also blocking phishing, denial of service and directory harvesting attacks.

The use of Protective Addresses establishes multiple routes into one's inbox, each of which can be associated with specific access policies to provide users with very granular control over who is able to communicate with them. By automatically tracking "to-from" address pairs, the system provides a very lightweight mechanism for validating correspondents. This approach also enables the detection of address sharing and phishing exploits, and the organization and tracking of related correspondence, such as responses to marketing campaigns or surveys.
  
WIShost blends these capabilities with traditional defenses such as content filtering and white listing to cover the broadest range of user requirements. In this approach, as much mail as possible is elevated to a state that doesn't require filtering, except for viruses, which reduces the incidence of false positives. Other mail will be subjected to processing based on user policies. This system is depicted in the following diagram.

WTC enables users to create Addresses-on-the-Fly to protect their primary address from new sources of spam that might result from disclosures on the Web, in print, or over the phone. The Protective Address model can also be fluidly perpetuated in a fully automatic fashion for all new correspondents, at the user's discretion. The administration of Protective Addresses is fully automated by WIShost's Supplemental Address Management System (SAMS).
 
Research shows that the use of Protective Addresses in combination with traditional defenses is highly beneficial. Customer data confirms that the Protective Address model reduces false-positives by an order of magnitude, while also limiting the incidence of challenge/response.
